Shawn Ayube is the founder of Clockwork Bio and a fractional COO to early-stage biotechnology companies navigating operational and infrastructure inflection points.

Shawn has spent more than 25 years working in biotechnology organizations, beginning as a laboratory scientist before transitioning into research operations and broader operational leadership roles.

Over the course of his career he has:

• Led the lab and business operations of a well-known biotech incubator, supporting more than 50 early-stage biotech startups
• Served as Vice President of Operations for a venture-backed startup
• Helped early-stage biotech companies secure and scale laboratory space and infrastructure
• Implemented and managed operational systems across finance, HR, safety, and facilities

Founders typically engage Shawn during periods when operational leadership becomes critical, such as securing laboratory space, building operational systems from the ground up, replacing departing operations leadership, or scaling infrastructure following financing.

Unlike brokers or consultants who provide recommendations from the outside, Shawn works inside companies as part of the leadership team.

As fractional COO, he owns operational execution, overseeing the systems that allow companies to function and grow, including finance, HR, vendor management, safety, and facilities.

Shawn founded Clockwork Bio in 2023 following operational leadership roles at Amgen, LabCentral, the Harvard Life Lab, and Olaris, Inc., a venture-backed startup.

These experiences shaped the model behind Clockwork Bio, which provides embedded operational leadership to early-stage biotech companies navigating infrastructure and operational inflection points.
